Instrument Reliability Improvement Program at a Gas Processing Plant

This presentation describes the implementation of instrument base layer improvement to support plant operational excellence at the plant’s operation division, the gas processing plant, Complex-A, at PETRONAS Gas Bhd.

  • Address Operational Performance Improvement (OPI) and Value Improvement Project (VIP) Issues - Identification of the OPI and VIP Instrumentation and Control issues, which became the bottleneck for OPI & VIP progress.
  • Fit for Optimization - High percentage auto controller to support Advanced Process Controller (APC) to perform at its optimum.
  • Plant Reliability - Maintenance has direct focus to resolve the outstanding instrument based layer; reduction of reworks and priority 1 and 2 notifications; and reduction of unplanned plant breakdowns due to instrumentation issues.
  • Align Maintenance Strategy - Condition based monitoring as it identifies and signals the problematic controllers before failures; enhance PM vs. REM ratio maintenance to achieve PM% world class standard; and reduction of maintenance cost overall. (REM maintenance cost is higher than PM maintenance cost.)
